Meeting Isobelle Carmody & Australian Fantasy Month Giveaway!

Angelya, Isobelle & Me @ Kenmore Library

Just a quick post to squee about how exciting it was to meet Isobelle Carmody yesterday for an author talk at my local library.  Myself and Angelya from The Oaken Bookcase went together and were highly entertained with how she fell into writing and gave some very unique advice on how she learned to engage the reader!

For anyone who hasn’t read Carmody’s Oberneywten series I strongly recommend adding it to your wish list, it is truly remarkable especially considering she originally wrote the 1st book when she was just 14 years old!  The final installment to the series – The Red Queen is due out in 2013 so now is a great time to read the other 6 (7 if you are in the US) novels that make up the series.

About Obernewtyn:

In a world struggling back from the brink of apocalypse, life is harsh. And for Elspeth Gordie, it is also dangerous. That’s because Elspeth has a secret: she is a Misfit, born with mysterious mental abilities that she must keep hidden under threat of death. And her worries only multiply when she is exiled to the mountain compound known as Obernewtyn, where—for all her talents—Elspeth may finally and truly be out of her depth. Then she learns she’s not the only one concealing secrets at Obernewtyn.

Complete Series (As released by Penguin Australia)
Obernewtyn (1987)
The Farseekers (1990)
Ashling (1995)
The Keeping Place (1999)
The Stone Key (2008)
The Sending (2011)
The Red Queen (2013?)
