WWW Wednesday #3

WWW Wednesdays is hosted by Should Be Reading. It’s a weekly (Wednesday-gasp!) event where you share

1. What you’re currently reading
2. What you recently finished reading and
3. What you think you’ll read next.

 What I’m Currently Reading

The Hunt by Andrew Fukuda

Goodreads | Amazon | The Book Depository

I had this on my currently reading list last week and ended up only reading a page! Not having this available through the Kindle has been a big deterrant as I rarely remember to get out the iPad to read a book. Will have to make a big effort this week to get it finished off.

Goodreads Synopsis:

Don’t Sweat.  Don’t Laugh.  Don’t draw attention to yourself.  And most of all, whatever you do, do not fall in love with one of them.
Gene is different from everyone else around him.  He can’t run with lightning speed, sunlight doesn’t hurt him and he doesn’t have an unquenchable lust for blood.  Gene is a human, and he knows the rules.  Keep the truth a secret.  It’s the only way to stay alive in a world of night—a world where humans are considered a delicacy and hunted for their blood.

When he’s chosen for a once in a lifetime opportunity to hunt the last remaining humans, Gene’s carefully constructed life begins to crumble around him.  He’s thrust into the path of a girl who makes him feel things he never thought possible—and into a ruthless pack of hunters whose suspicions about his true nature are growing. Now that Gene has finally found something worth fighting for, his need to survive is stronger than ever—but is it worth the cost of his humanity?

Night Beach by Kirsty Eagar

Goodreads.com | Amazon | The Book Depository

I made a last minute decision to request it from Netgalley and now must  try and have it finished and reviewed before the publication date of 26 April 2012!

Goodreads Synopsis:

Imagine there is someone you like so much that just thinking about them leaves you desperate and reckless. You crave them in a way that’s not rational, not right, and you’re becoming somebody you don’t recognise, and certainly don’t respect, but you don’t even care.

And this person you like is unattainable. Except for one thing…

He lives downstairs.

Abbie has three obsessions. Art. The ocean. And Kane.

But since Kane’s been back, he’s changed. There’s a darkness shadowing him that only Abbie can see. And it wants her in its world.

A gothic story about the very dark things that feed the creative process.

What I Recently Finished Reading

Above by Leah Bobet

Goodreads | Amazon | The Book Depository

I was really dissapointed with this book.  It was slow, I didn’t like the characters, the romance was abysmal and to be frank there was just nothing particularly interesting about the story.  I found myself procrastinating reading which is always a sign that I’m not enjoying myself at all.

Goodreads Synopsis:

Matthew has loved Ariel from the moment he found her in the tunnels, her bee’s wings falling away. They live in Safe, an underground refuge for those fleeing the city Above–like Whisper, who speaks to ghosts, and Jack Flash, who can shoot lightning from his fingers.

But one terrifying night, an old enemy invades Safe with an army of shadows, and only Matthew, Ariel, and a few friends escape Above. As Matthew unravels the mystery of Safe’s history and the shadows’ attack, he realizes he must find a way to remake his home–not just for himself, but for Ariel, who needs him more than ever before.

ABOVE is the debut of an amazing new voice.

What I Plan on Reading Next

Masque of the Red Death by Bethany Griffin

Goodreads | Amazon | The Book Depository

I have requested this through Edelweiss and am desperately keen to read it.  If I’m approved for an e-galley then I’ll be reading it asap as the publication date is the 24th April 2012.

Goodreads Synopsis:

Everything is in ruins.

A devastating plague has decimated the population. And those who are left live in fear of catching it as the city crumbles to pieces around them.

So what does Araby Worth have to live for?

Nights in the Debauchery Club, beautiful dresses, glittery make-up . . . and tantalizing ways to forget it all.

But in the depths of the club—in the depths of her own despair—Araby will find more than oblivion. She will find Will, the terribly handsome proprietor of the club. And Elliott, the wickedly smart aristocrat. Neither boy is what he seems. Both have secrets. Everyone does.

And Araby may find something not just to live for, but to fight for—no matter what it costs her.

Disharmony by Leah Giarratano

Goodreads | The Book Depository

Still on my list from last week and still very keen to get started on it! I thought the synopsis of this book sounded awesome and as it’s also an Australian author I’m so glad I’m getting the opportunity to read this.

Goodreads Synopsis:

A psychopath…an empath…a genius.
Three siblings who will save the world – or destroy it.
They know nothing of each other. They know nothing of the Telling.
But they’ll need to learn fast if they’re going to survive…
A gripping new series about a collision of worlds, the power of destiny, and the darkness in us all..

Lisa (When she Reads) says:

Oh my… these looks fantastic read! Here’s Mine

Thanks so much for stopping by my WWW for the week :)

I’m envious that you get to read Kristi Eager’s book…if I recall that one wasn’t available to me in the US. I *LOVED* her Raw Blue…it was just so fantastically good. Can’t wait to see what you think of it.

Thanks for letting me know about Above…I’ll be sure to scrap this one from my wishlists as it doesn’t sound like its worth my time.

My WWW Wednesday is here.

This is the first book I’ve read of hers and the writing is pulling me in – it has a really eerie quality to it so far, love it! Yes, I believe that you have to be an Australian blogger to get access to the Penguin Australia galleys which would make it hard in the US. If it makes you feel better you guys have access to heaps of awesome events and publishers are willing to send you physical copies which is much harder here :)

Mask of Death has a gorgeous cover and I still like the sound of The Hunt

Here’s my WWW

https://melcj.wordpress.com/2012/04/18/www-wednesday-4/

The cover is gorgeous hey! I really have to make an effort to read The Hunt – so wish a Kindle version had just been made available would have made it much easier to read and review :( It’s released in the first week of May so will need to get cracking on it soon!

Gorgeous covers! I’m intrigued by Night Beach.

So far Night Beach has been really good – its got a real mysterious vibe and some of the Goodreads reviews to date make it sound creepy as. I’m really looking forward to getting into it :)

I haven’t read any of those books, but have been interested in reading them all. Unfortunately, I’m trying not to buy any new books for a few months so I can knock out some challenges I already have books for. Plus, I’m still on the fence about buying an ereader. Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing your reviews.
Here’s my WWW: http://meganm922.blogspot.com/2012/04/www-wednesdays_18.html

It can get a bit like that hey? So many books to get through for review, challenges etc! I was really anti ereaders when I first heard about the kindle, then lack of space in my apartment made me take the plunge and I love it now! I still have 1 bookshelf of physical books but get everything else in ebook form :)

I have Above on my waiting list at the library, can’t wait to read Masque of Red Death as well when it comes out :)

I’ll be interested to see what you think of Above – I was really dissapointed but I’ve read some reviews that were really positive.

Masque of the Red Death is getting such good reviews on Goodreads it’s making me very excited :)

Thanks for stopping by my WWW Valentina!

Wow, you do have a lot to get through this week. I’ll be interested to hear what you think of The Hunt, I thought it looked great from the synopsis. By the way, I have one of those pesky Adobe-only galleys to read too… are you still planning to post your conversion method? :)

I probably should write a post on it lol, I’m sure I’m not the only person who has been puzzled by it! You need to follow the basic Netgalley instructions which will tell you to install Adobe Digital Editions. I then got a iphone app (I’m pretty sure it has an android version too) called Bluefire. Bluefire then have great instructions on how to move the document from Adobe Digital Editions and into your phone so you can read it. Let me know if that helps!

Ah, thanks. I’ll see if I can get it working on the weekend.

Top!
